GitCloud Desktop: a custom work environment with a console and files
A Linux session built around the panel and the AI assistant: no window frames, with its own console, file manager and bar in one style.
A recording and screenshots of the console and file manager running in a separate home directory with made-up folders, files and repository; Polish interface labels translated for the recording.
Task
A standard desktop was distracting: dozens of windows, notifications and mixed styles. One consistent environment was needed, where the panel and the console for the AI assistant are always in place.
Solution
A session in the sway compositor: the panel on the left in a WebKit window, a custom console on the right (a tab server keeps the processes, the xterm.js window also shows images and searches the output), a web bar on top with a player, sound, notifications and search. A custom file manager with tiles, preview and trash instead of a third-party app. Configuration in one Ansible repository, both computers pull changes on their own; an interface watchdog checks it every 15 minutes and restores the window after a failure.
Result
- One configuration for two computers, a change = a commit
- Console tabs survive a window restart, together with the running AI assistant
- Interface self-check every 15 minutes with automatic recovery
My role
Interface design, code of the console, file manager and bar, deployment automation.
